Stravinsky described Beethoven’s Grosse Fuge, conceived as the finale to his Op. 130, as ‘the most absolutely contemporary piece of music I know, and contemporary for ever.’ The Chiaroscuro Quartet and Cédric Tiberghien follow it with Brahms’s Piano Quintet, an early masterwork of symphonic proportions.
